Our Mission is our passion
We are passionate about languages. Native languages, second languages, foreign languages, and all the languages in the world, including those that are now extinct.
We believe in passing on cultural knowledge to our children. We understand that the traditions and knowledge of a culture are encoded and transmitted through language, and that it is through the native language of a culture that we pass on to our children, the unique world view and knowledge of that culture. We also know that *individuals who study foreign languages and cultures help themselves toward international and intercultural communication. They expose themselves to a global perspective, and enhance their career potential in the ever growing arena of international trade and cross-cultural professional exchange. (Curtain, 1988)
We are dedicated to finding new and creative ways to teach languages to children. Our methods and tools are based on the common sense experiences of our ancestors, and the latest research affecting language education. We draw from interdisciplinary fields such as linguistics, linguistic ecology, developmental psychology and the latest brain research. Our methods are field tested before being put out on the market, and our customers become active participants providing invaluable feedback for improving our methods and tools for language instruction.
We nurture linguistic diversity. We believe in the importance of passing on the English language to children to help them gain access to the opportunities of the global marketplace and improve intercultural communication. And we believe that it is equally imperative to teach second languages and native languages here in this country and around the world. Studies shows us that by preserving diverse languages, we are at once preserving a diverse knowledge-base that is invaluable to us and to future generations.
"...In understanding and celebrating unity in diversity, lies our best hope for a sustainable future." (Wollock 2001)
Our evolution is our strength
Sube has evolved from an afterschool language program developed in 1996 by a bilingual mother, artist and teacher implementing hands-on methods for engaging kids through art and games, to a research-based model for language instruction field tested by teachers in diverse classroom environments with culturally and linguistically diverse students. We stay up to date on the latest research and make sure our curriculum is aligned to national and international standards. In addition, you, the teachers using the Sube curriculum, are not just customers to us, you are part of our process and our goal. Through constant interaction and feedback with you, we continually improve our methods and tools to assure it meets your needs, and the needs of your students. We stay up to date on the latest research and make sure our curriculum is aligned to national and international standards.
